    Former MLB pitcher Reyes Moronta dead at 31

    Former MLB pitcher Reyes Moronta died in a driving accident in the Dominican Republic on Sunday, according to multiple reports .

    Moronta, who pitched for four MLB teams spanning six seasons, was 31.

    The Bravos de León of the Mexican League, his most recent team, confirmed his death in a post on X.

    Moronta was driving a four-wheeler home at the time of the accident, according to MLB insider Héctor Gómez — who shared a photo of a four-wheeler on its side and cited a person “very close” to Moronta in a post on X.

    The accident took place in the Quinigua neighborhood near the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, according to Dominican news outlet El Pregonero .

    The outlet also reported Moronta was recently acquired by the Aguilas Cibaeñas team.

    “We deeply regret the departure of Reyes Moronta. We wish family and friends a quick resignation to this news,” Bravos de León wrote on X. “A hug to heaven.”

    The Mexcian Baseball League said in a separate post that it “deeply regrets the death of former player Reyes Moronta.”

    Moronta signed with Bravos de León in May and was released by the team on July 25, according to his transactions page on MLB.com .

    The right-handed reliever pitched for the Giants, Dodgers and Diamondbacks before making two appearances with the Angels in 2023.

    In 177 major league games, Moronta went 10-11 with a 3.05 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 171 1/3 innings.
