Jacoby Brissett Offers Interesting Take On Patriots’ QB Situation

Jacoby Brissett is serving as the New England Patriots‘ lame-duck quarterback for 2024. Unless something drastic changes with Drake Maye, Brissett is likely going to play at least a few games for the Patriots this season. Of course, nothing is set in stone, which has left analysts, pundits, fans, and interviewers asking about the situation.

Speaking in an interview with Kay Adams on July 29’s edition of “Up and Adams,” Brissett declared himself “perfect” for both counts.

“Two things can be true, I can be the perfect guy for this situation but also I’m the perfect guy to start.”

Of course, many fans will look at this as someone just arguing for any kind of playing time to make a case to extend his career. At this point as a borderline starter, Brissett likely has a long leash in the NFL. Even if he can’t find a starting job somewhere, plenty of teams would view him as an upgrade working as a backup. That said, the goal for all players is to maximize their income while they can.

If they can get any extra opportunities to show their abilities, it could generate the clip that wins over a general manager in the future.

Jacoby Brissett finally succeeds Tom Brady

Longtime Patriots fans might be stuck in the twilight zone this season. After nearly a decade since his last start for the Patriots, Brissett is back in New England. Seemingly in the driver’s seat to win at least Week 1 honors, the one-time third-string backup to Tom Brady will technically be one of his successors.

Brissett could also be in the running for the longest gap between tenures with the same team. The quarterback played in three games for the team in 2016. Between then and now, Brissett has played for four teams, including four seasons for the Colts.

Now, the signal-caller has come full circle to stand in Brady’s shoes. No one expects him to live up to his predecessor. That much is obvious. That said, every week he can keep the team afloat hands Maye a higher chance of succeeding in the NFL. Even if Brissett doesn’t ultimately win the job for the entire season, he has a chance to cement part of his legacy.

Drew Bledsoe is still a name many know in the league because he was Brady’s predecessor. If Maye takes off, Brissett’s name will forever be attached to Maye’s. This will keep his name in the NFL zeitgeist. That event could extend his fame for decades.
