DOOMS — Virginia State Police have identified a motorcyclist who was killed Tuesday morning in Augusta County following a head-on collision with a truck.

Police said a Crimora man was on a 2024 Kawasaki Eliminator motorcycle and heading south on U.S. 340 at about 6:30 a.m. when a 1994 Ford F-450 coming from the opposite direction drifted into his lane and struck him head-on, according to Sgt. S. Gregory of the Virginia State Police.

"The area of impact was in the southbound lane," Gregory said.

The crash took place in Dooms in the 700 block of U.S. 340.

The motorcyclist, 57-year-old Terri L. Smith, died at the scene.

A third vehicle swerved to miss the crash and ran over some of the debris, Gregory said.

Police said the Ford truck was towing a 2009 Dodge Challenger. A mechanical issue with the truck is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash. The driver, a 44-year-old Broadway man, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

    Charges are pending an investigation.
