Carrie Underwood is not shy about sharing her love of rock and roll nor is she a stranger to teaming up with iconic rockers. She often adds classic rock hits from bands like Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones into her concerts. Additionally, Underwood has performed with Axl Rose and Steven Tyler. Now, the award-winning country superstar is teaming up with Papa Roach for a new rendition of “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” for a good cause.

Papa Roach originally released “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark)” on their 2022 album Ego Trip. The next year, they released it as a single in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Talk Away the Dark Campaign. The song reached No. 10 on the Billboard Rock Airplay chart and No. 1 on the publication’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.

Now, Underwood is teaming up with the band to release a new rendition of the song. They will release the new track this Friday (August 2) in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The foundation will receive all royalties for the release from both artists in perpetuity. Additionally, the release will help bring awareness to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Prevention Lifeline in the United States and Canada, according to press materials.

Both Carrie Underwood and Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix spoke about the new single in a press release.

“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away” Shaddix shared. “Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a ‘Rock Star’ bring life to this track with us,” he added.

“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave A Light On’ with them,” Underwood said in the statement. “It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”
