Northwest Georgia is under a heat advisory Thursday and the heat index could reach as high as 108 degrees because of the temperature coupled with high humidity.

According to the National Weather Service , the heat advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday.

It’s going to stay hot with a chance of rain through next week.

Friday’s forecast calls for a high near 97 and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. That chance of rain increases Friday night and the low is expected to drop to around 73 degrees.

Precipitation through the weekend may cool the temperatures off a small amount but the highs will remain in the low 90s.

In order to deal with the heat, the weather service reminds people to drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of direct sun and check on neighbors and loved ones. Anyone who suspects someone might be suffering from heat stroke should call 911.
