Several college football teams have clearly separated themselves ahead of the 2024 season.

While a single snap has yet to be played, returning talent and offseason additions have teams like Georgia, Texas, Ohio State and Oregon at the top of postseason projections.

Those projections have taken a largely new form this year with major conference realignment and the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff on the way.

ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) ranked the top-30 teams with the best chance to make the playoff in 2024. The Bulldogs from Athens lead the charge once again with a Heisman Trophy contender at quarterback and arguably the most-talented roster in the sport.

From a numbers standpoint, FPI metrics give Georgia a 79.1% chance to make the playoff and a 21% chance to win it all.

UGA's odd to claim its third national title in the last four years leads the competition by a large margin. Oregon is second (12.8%), followed by Texas (11.4%), Ohio State (10.5%) and Penn State (6.6%).

There's a clear drop off from the top four down to the Nittany Lions.

The Bulldogs' chances at getting back to the top of the sport hinge on their ability to navigate one of the toughest schedules in the country. UGA will take trips to Alabama (No. 7 in national championship odds, per FPI) Texas, who ESPN labeled as Georgia's toughest test, and Ole Miss (No. 18).

    Georgia hosts Tennessee (No. 9).

Even with a Heisman contender at quarterback in Carson Beck, a stout offensive line and a loaded defense – it would be a surprise to see Kirby Smart's Dawgs, who have lost just two games since 2021, remain unscathed.

But no longer will one, or maybe even two, losses derail a season of work.

Georgia will get things started in Atlanta versus Clemson (No. 13 in national title odds, per FPI) on Aug. 31.
