August has arrived, signaling the upcoming college football season kickoff in a few weeks. This season brings great anticipation because it marks the inaugural season of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

In anticipation of the 12-team playoff, ESPN compiled a list of the top 30 teams best positioned to make the playoffs this season. ESPN used its Football Power Index (FPI) to determine the rankings. It was evident that one conference dominated the top 10.

The SEC had six of the top 10 teams with the highest chances of making the College Football Playoff. Here are the rankings of those teams:

    1. Georgia Bulldogs, 79.1%
    3. Texas Longhorns, 67.8%
    7. Alabama Crimson Tide, 57.2%
    8. Missouri Tigers, 37.3%
    9. Tennessee Volunteers, 36.9%
    10. Oklahoma Sooners, 36.6%

The FPI indicated that the Bulldogs had the best chance of winning the national championship, with a 21% chance. Missouri had the lowest chance of the group at 2.2%.

Anticipation will soon fade as the season is scheduled to start on Aug. 24, 2024. Then, it will be a race to see which team can take home the crown and win the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff.
