As the New York Jets continue with training camp, they are starting to get a gauge of what the team is going to look like. While training camp and the preseason are for getting the regulars prepared for the season, it is also a time for players to try to impress and make the team.

The Jets will be analyzing the roster as always, looking for players to round out the 53-man unit. Depth in the NFL is very important, especially with the season getting longer.

In addition to bringing players in the NFL Draft to develop, the Jets also signed some undrafted rookies to come in an compete for a spot. One of those players was defensive lineman Leonard Taylor from the University of Miami.

Recently, Bleacher Report discussed which undrafted free agent could make the team for the Jets.

    Their choice was Taylor.

Here’s what they had to say .

“Leonard Taylor III was the highest-graded player on the final B/R big board who went undrafted. He got some first-round hype early in the draft process, but NFL teams clearly had some reservations about him.

The 6’3″, 305-pound defensive lineman was a problem in the ACC as a sophomore in 2022. He had 10.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception while showing an explosive first step.

The Jets need some upside on the interior. Quinnen Williams is the foundation of the position group, but the rest of the group isn’t all that exciting. Taylor’s upside should help him challenge for a roster spot.”

The Jets have been priding themselves in defense

One of the best strengths for the Jets over the last few years has been their defense. While Robert Saleh has taken a lot of criticism as the head coach overall, he has certainly helped build a Super Bowl caliber defense.

The Jets have a lot of talent on all three levels of their defense with Pro Bowlers and All-Pro players. Having good pass-rushers and depth in the trenches has been a strength for the Jets. While they have seen some turnover in the trenches over the last few years, there is considerable talent on the Williams-led unit.

Williams is certainly the anchor in the middle for the Jets, but there is some opportunity to make the team alongside him. Taylor has had some success in college with Miami, but didn’t have a great draft process.

As an undrafted free agent, Taylor will have to work very hard throughout training camp and the preseason to make the team, but there does seem to be a chance for him at this point if he has a strong summer.
