The Michael Penix Jr Fantasy Insurance Policy

Michael Penix Jr. spent six seasons in college (due to having a COVID year). Injury is an issue; he’s missed 24 out of 72 possible games. Even with those issues, he was able to put together an impressive resume of 1067 completions on 1685 attempts (63.3% completion rate) for 13741 yards (8.2 yards per attempt), 96 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions. He also added 134 attempts for 265 yards (2 yards per attempt) and 13 touchdowns.

His first four years were injury-marred, and while he showed flashes of brilliance, he didn't break out until he transferred to Washington, where he went nuts and produced over half of his career numbers. He lands in possibly the best long-term situation of the class. Drake London, Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, a high-tier offensive line, and a Sean McVay system will lead to fantasy success.

The only problem is that Kirk Cousins just signed a four-year deal to be the starter. Penix is amazing insurance in case Kirk gets hurt again, but due to the contract guarantee, Cousins will be there for at least two seasons. For fantasy purposes, that sucks for his short-term stability, even usefulness. Penix is strictly a second-round pick, even if you need a QB in Superflex leagues. In Redraft leagues, he should be left on the Waiver Wire unless Cousins gets hurt again.
