Canadian Woman Survived Attack From Trio Of Grizzly Bears Thanks To Hair Clip: “My Saving Grace Is From Walmart”

Talk about a MacGyver way to survive a bear attack (look it up if you don’t understand the reference).

If there’s one place in this world that you don’t want to find yourself in, it’s right in front of an angry grizzly bear. Bruin attacks aren’t all that common, but they sometimes do happen, and sadly a lot of people don’t live to tell the tale.

But this Canadian woman went against the narrative, and thanks to her resourcefulness, she managed to survive a gnarly bear – or should I say grizzly bears – attack. How did she do it? A little bit of courage, quick thinking, and a hair clip.

Vanessa Chaput was jogging with her German shepherd when they came upon a trio of grizzly bears on a mountainside trail in Haines Junction, Canada. The dog, named Luna, chased off two of the bruins, but one came right for the Vanessa and things got ugly quick, as she explained to CTV News:

“The bear had taken me down with my head in its mouth, and my first thought was, ‘protect your vitals,’ so I went straight into the fetal position.

My saving grace is from Walmart.”

The Yukon woman, who accidentally turned a hair accessory into a weapon when she needed to most, went on to say that the hair clip that was atop her head snapped in the bear’s mouth, which spooked it away and gave her time to hide. She was able to make it to cover behind a nearby tree, and when the bruin tried to charge again, her dog Luna came in to save the day:

“If it wasn’t for my dog barking, the bear was going to come and finish the job.”

Chaput mustered the strength to get herself to a nearby road, and called both her husband and 911. She suffered puncture wounds up and down her arm, as well as a broken bone and some nerve damage. Despite all the injuries, she was miraculously able to escape with her life.

To all the men out there, next time your significant other says she needs to buy herself another hair clip… let her. It might seem silly, or you might feel like she doesn’t need another one, but having a hair clip could very well save her life.
