The San Jose Sharks signed 2024 2nd-round pick Igor Chernyshov to a three-year entry-level contract after the forward bought out the remainder of his KHL contract.

Multiple reports suggested that Chernyshov would leave Dynamo Moscow and head to North America early. The forward was selected by the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL draft.

According to SJHN’s Sheng Peng, Chernyshov will play for the Spirit.

After being drafted 33rd overall by the Sharks, the 18-year-old told reporters through a translator that, “he is very excited to go to San Jose. He will do anything he can to get there as soon as he can.”

The Spirit are loading up on 2024 NHL Draftees. The Spirit will have at least two 2024 first-round picks, Zayne Parekh and Michael Misa, on the roster.

Chernyshov is eligible for an ELC slide. By playing in the OHL the Sharks will not be burning the first year of his three-year deal.

The forward was viewed as a late first-round prospect.
