Every year, the NFL releases a list of the Top 100 players in the league. Current players cast their votes on who they think is the best among their competition. This list has gotten a lot of heat in the past, as the players' thoughts don't match up with public perception.

This year's list might be the one that will be talked about the most. Last season, Patrick Mahomes was voted as the best player in the league. No one really batted an eye: it's Mahomes, after all. There's no arguing he's the best, especially after his MVP season.

This year, though, the players voted for a different guy. In fact, they voted for three other guys: Patrick Mahomes was ranked number four in this year's NFL Top 100 list.

Mahomes was placed below Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson, and Tyreek Hill. The move quickly got a lot of reactions, as fans were baffled by the players' decision to put Mahomes that low.

Many felt that after winning another Super Bowl and getting MVP in that game, Mahomes should've been at the top spot.

Mahomes' long-time personal trainer also chimed in the discussion with a simple message.

Even veteran reporters couldn't believe Mahomes' ranking. Albert Breer joked that maybe the NFL account was hacked.

Admittedly, Mahomes had a down year in the 2023 regular season. Off the heels of his second MVP run, Mahomes threw for "just" 4,183 yards with "just" 27 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. For comparison, he threw for 5,250 yards with 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2022.

Once the playoffs came around, though, Mahomes proved why he's in the GOAT conversation. Playing through the Wild Card round for the first time, he led the Chiefs through the AFC gauntlet against Hill's Dolphins, the Texans, and Jackson's Ravens.

In the Super Bowl, Mahomes beat McCaffrey's 49ers to win his third ring. That would likely explain why fans are baffled by him being ranked lower than those three players.
