Gus Edwards is part of the aforementioned talented Chargers RB room, which consists of Kimani Vidal and familiar-face teammate J.K. Dobbins. Edwards is currently ranked first on the 2024 Chargers depth chart, ahead of both Dobbins and Vidal. Edwards joins a coach who will ensure his offense is effective in the run and will consistently establish it. That is a running back’s (and RB fantasy owner’s) dream.
Their offensive line may not be where they want it yet, but they surely have the talent. With Joe Alt now joining Rashawn Slater, Zion Johnson, and Bradley Bozeman, one should expect that young offensive line to continue to trend up. That bodes well for “the Gus Bus,” who is coming off career highs in yards (990) and touchdowns (13).
He showed his ability to be a leadback after having a career-high in carries (198) after Dobbins sustained his season-ending injury. Even with a healthy Dobbins and emerging Vidal, the Gus Bus seems to be a solid depth option for an RB-needy fantasy squad. However, there is concern about his return timetable from his undisclosed injury earlier this offseason. That is something to keep an eye on.
Our consensus projections for Edwards in the 2024 season are 197 carries for 618 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. As well as 13 receptions, 87 yards, and 0 touchdowns.
