Las Vegas Raiders star defender took on a new role during the team scrimmage and excelled at it

Practice for the Las Vegas Raiders started a bit later on Saturday than it usually does. Usually, the Raiders look to get started around 9 A.M. West Coast time and finish up around 11-12 P.M. But on Saturday it started late in the afternoon.

That's because the Raiders were set to run their first scrimmage of the year, where the offense plays the defense with referees in attendance to make calls. The offense struggled a bit but had a few good moments, and the defense did their thing like they always do. But one thing stood out above the rest.

Training camp is the perfect time for players to try and get their foot in the door for new roles. That's what Jack Jones, the Raiders star outside cornerback, did during the scrimmage. When it was time for the special teams part of the scrimmage, Jack Jones found himself in the end zone waiting to receive a kickoff.

And boy did he receive it. He actually took the kick all the way to the house for a touchdown. That's not something we have seen from Jones in a Raiders uniform. In fact, last season he played just 10 total snaps on special teams, and none were as a returner.

It's ultimately funny because when you're a returner, you have to have speed. With the new Madden game out, Jack Jones found out that his speed was a 74 overall, which is pretty insane, to be honest. After the scrimmage he quote tweeted a tweet about the return and laughed at the idea that he could have a 74 speed.

He later said he was not going to play Madden at all this year.

If this is a new role for Jones, maybe it's a good one. I do know that Jones is oftentimes injury prone. He has never played more than 12 games in a season, and if he's going to be on kickoff returners it adds another unnecessary way to get hurt potentially.

But, hey, maybe this was just all for fun and he just returned a touchdown for the heck of it. Jones is continuing to have a perfect training camp for what his situation is.
