Simone Biles ' proud mother revealed that the family are planning a low-key celebration without the gymnastics hero to toast her success at the Paris Olympics .

The American hero's redemption in the French capital has been one of the standout stories of the Games this summer following on from her struggles in Toyko three years ago. After withdrawing from much of the spectacle in 2021, the 27-year-old has rallied back to her all-conquering best - earning four medals in Paris.

Three of those were the golds in the team, all-around and vault events, while she also earned the silver in the floor exercise final to take her overall Olympics haul to 11 medals. The most decorated gymnast in history, her spirited showings in Paris have consolidated her legacy as an all-time sporting great.

Now, Biles' mom Nellie has revealed to People that the family plan to honor her success by gathering to "to eat and toast" the triumphant superstar as they plan to "talk and talk and relive the whole thing". However, she did admit that her daughter would not be present at the gettogether as she will instead be heading "back to the [Olympic] Village."

She also reflected on the resilience shown by her daughter as she bounced back from her struggles in Tokyo, as she paid tribute to her saying: "Those times were really dark and stressful times.

"To work through that and be in this place where she enjoys doing what she wants ... this is rewriting her story. It's rewriting it on her terms because she is in this place that she really perhaps wished she would have been for years."

She added: "It's just been an unbelievable week. I know we came here with our own expectations, but the expectation was whatever, we do want her to medal, but not putting any stipulations on what medals that she will get. And I mean, three golds — we're just elated."

Biles has similarly been overcome with emotion following her heroics in Paris as she revealed on " Today " that she cried after returning to her accommodation for the Games for one final time. She recalled: "Yesterday, once we got back to the village, I looked at Jordan [Chiles], and I just started bawling my eyes out.

"And she was like, 'I knew it was going to happen. I just didn’t know when'. I think I was so full of emotion, and I finally released all of that," she continued, before acknowledging: "I was so proud, happy, bittersweet that the journey’s over. It’s like, it’s so crazy. It happened so quick. My third Olympics ."

Looking back at the overall experience, Biles said: "I can't be more proud of how I've done. I'm 27 years old walking away from this games with four medals to add to my collection. Not mad about it. I've accomplished way [more than I thought I would]. A couple of years ago, I didn't think I'd be back here."
