Udonis Haslem Calls Out Haters Who Don't Like Dwyane Wade Painting His Nails

Dwyane Wade has faced plenty of criticism over time for painting his nails and his former teammate Udonis Haslem has now come to his defense. On the latest episode of The OGs Show , Patrick Beverley brought up the criticism that has come Wade's way and Haslem blasted the haters.

"They trying my dawg," Haslem said. "...  My dawg has been always a trendsetter when it came to fashion. He's always not given a f***," Haslem exclaimed. "He's always been willing to push the odds a little bit. He is doing nothing wrong by supporting his kids.

"He should support Zaya and every dream that she has, regardless of what she wants to do in life," Haslem continued. "That's a father's and that's a parent's job.

"So, regardless of that, sitting at home, painting his nails with his daughters, so f***ing what? ... In the world today, when we see so many girls that grow up and have daddy issues and he's making sure that his daughter that don't happen and we criticize that s***? Stop that s***," Haslem added. "That's hating. Stop that sucker a** s***."

Wade certainly appreciated those words from Haslem, who was his teammate on the Miami Heat for nearly 15 seasons. The Hall of Famer posted the clip as a story on Instagram with a powerful caption.

"Key word... Always not giving a ****. My guys!"

All this talk about nails once again resurfaced thanks to Noah Lyles, who just won the men's 100m sprint at the 2024 Olympics. Lyles had painted his nails and Wade dared people to call him out for it. Sadly but unsurprisingly, both men were called out for it.

To Wade's credit, he hasn't let any of it get to him. I always found it ridiculous, though, that so many people have been offended by a man painting his nails. To go with all the backlash that has come the 13-time All-Star's way for that, he has also bizarrely gotten criticized for supporting his daughter Zaya, who came out as transgender in 2020.

We hear so many heartbreaking stories of parents not supporting their children and Wade should be applauded for standing by Zaya. While there has been a big negative reaction as a result of it, I hope that at least some have followed the 42-year-old's example.

Dwyane Wade Started Painting His Nails In 2007

While many believe that Wade only started painting his nails to show support for Zaya, he actually started doing it over a decade before she came out as trans. During an interview with Highsnobiety earlier this year, Wade revealed he has been painting his nails since 2007.

“My father has always been a man who would take care of himself. My uncles took care of themselves. I always knew that’s what I wanted to do: I wanted to be one of them sharp-dressed men who smelled good, who stayed clean-shaved, and all that.” So Wade has always done the same: massages, facials, nail appointments. “I’ve been getting my nails painted since 2007,” Wade said, via Clay Skipper.

As Haslem pointed out, Wade has been somewhat of a trendsetter when it comes to fashion and we are seeing more and more top-level athletes start painting their nails now. Lyles is one and so is Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes somewhat of a norm at some point down the road.
