2024 Bowl Projections: College Football News Preseason Preview

Trying to come up with bowl projections five minutes before they're announced is impossible, much less trying to do this exercise in August. But here we go.

Even weirder this season is 1) an expanded College Football Playoff that takes out all the really, really good teams and most of the big bowl games, and 2) expanded conferences that will wreak havoc on bowl affiliations.

As always, we will adapt and adjust as the season goes on, but there's one giant thing everyone seems to be missing before the 2024 campaign gets going.

There will probably be far, far, FAR more bowl eligible Power Four programs - teams from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC - than there are slots.

The Group of Five conferences are a shadow of what they used to be.

The Mountain West is still fine, but the American Athletic Conference lost a slew of stars over the last few years, the Sun Belt is solid, and Conference USA and the MAC will have a hard time getting bowl invites over the big conferences.

In other words, don't get into any sort of a twist over teams not being in their right bowl affiliated spots.
