A motorcycle rider whose body was found on the Oxnard Plain Thursday morning died in a crash hours earlier, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The body of the rider, a 24-year-old Camarillo man, was found shortly before 7 a.m. in a drainage ditch on Las Posas Road north of the Revolon Slough, said CHP Officer Ryan Ayala. He was found next to a yellow 2007 Suzuki.

The site is along a stretch of Las Posas that cuts through agricultural fields east of Oxnard city limits. The section connects Pacific Coast Highway, near Naval Base Ventura County's Point Mugu location, to Hueneme Road.

Federal firefighters found the rider dead on arrival, Ayala said.

CHP investigators determined the rider crashed between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday while riding southbound on Las Posas. He failed to negotiate a sweeping right turn and drove off the east edge of the road at unknown speed. He hit two paddle markers before crashing into the drainage ditch, officials said in a news release. The accident apparently involved no other vehicles.

The rider's name was not released pending notification of family.

Ayala said the people who reported the incident to dispatchers had been looking for the man during the night.

There are no known witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ayala at the CHP's Ventura-area office at 805-662-2640.
