Passenger killed when driver side-swipes car, hits tree, Benzie Co. deputies say

On Thursday, Benzie County deputies were called to a crash involving two cars in Almira Township.

They said a driver in an Audi side-swiped another another car while passing it on Lake Ann Road. The Audi then went off the road and hit a tree.

Deputies said the driver, a Lake Ann man, was injured but conscious. The passenger, a Traverse City woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car that was side-swiped was not injured.

Michigan State Police are investigating the crash. They believe alcohol and speed were both factors.

No names have been released at this time.
