WATERVLIET, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — After about a year in the making, Cannoneer Café has opened in Watervliet. Owner Karen Gordon opened the doors on Monday, May 13.
Gordon was a bartender for 20 years before deciding to open a business of her own. “The hours of bartending didn’t mesh with my life anymore so I needed to go to daytime hours,” said Gordon.
The name “Cannoneer” comes from the Watervliet Central School District, whose mascot is the Cannoneers. “Watervliet just happened to be a small-knit community and the welcoming was wonderful,” said Gordon.
“She did a lot for us as kids and she had to tough it out with whatever job she could,” said Sophia Filuta, Gordon’s daughter. “She finally is making her dreams a reality. She is so positive. She tries to motivate every single person around her.”
The Cannoneer Café menu has healthy offerings such as coffee, smoothies, juices, and acai bowls. The menu is small now, but Gordon is planning on adding some food items such as low-carb breakfast sandwiches and bagels, salads, chia and hemp seed pudding, yogurt, and granola at the beginning of June.

Cannoneer Café is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The café is located at 224 19th Street in Watervliet.
“I was overwhelmed within the first week with pure gratitude,” said Gordon. “I’m so thankful.”
