BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office has reopened a 1980s murder investigation.

When authorities arrived, they found the body of 47-year-old Alfonso Cavazos inside the bedroom of his home, according to a news release from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Cavazos had been beaten to death with a blunt object, investigators said.

The crime scene was processed and investigators obtained information that led them to believe Cavazos may have been accompanied at the time by an unknown woman at the time of the killing.

“This case was investigated and several suspects and witnesses were interviewed, however not enough probable cause was found to charge any parties involved,” the release states.
