Port Charlotte, FL - A popular Southwest Florida diner sustained significant damage after a vehicle crashed into the building on Thursday night.

According to the owner of Sweet’s Diner, Scott Sweet, a 16-year-old driver accidentally accelerated into the building while attempting to park.

The impact caused extensive damage to the dining area and kitchen.

Sweet's Diner has been a community staple for 17 years and has faced numerous challenges, including economic downturns and natural disasters.

However, this is the first time the diner has been forced to close for an extended period.

The owner expressed concern for his employees who will be out of work during the recovery process.

Regular customers of the diner expressed disappointment over the temporary closure and praised the owner and his establishment.

The diner is expected to remain closed for several weeks while repairs are made.
