Chiefs Receive Tough Injury Update On Key Playmaker

    By Matthew Schmidt,

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown will miss four to six weeks due to a collarbone injury, via NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Brown suffered the injury during the Chiefs’ preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend.

Kansas City’s regular-season opener is on Sept. 5, so at minimum, Brown will be sidelined for Week 1.

This is obviously a significant blow for the Chiefs, who were hurting at wide receiver last year and added Brown in free agency to rectify the issue.

Kansas City signed Brown to a one-year, $7 million deal, which appeared to be a bargain. Of course, that could still be the case so long as Brown gets healthy.

Injuries are nothing new for the 27-year-old over the past three years, as he missed five games in 2022 and three contests last season. Now, Brown is set to miss some time yet again.

Brown, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 25th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He spent the first three years of his career with the Ravens, notching a 1,000-yard campaign in 2021. However, that ensuing offseason, Brown requested a trade and was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals.

Brown put forth a couple of disappointing seasons in Arizona, most recently catching 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.

Perhaps superior quarterback play in Kansas City will help him post better numbers.

How will the Chiefs’ receiving corps look in 2024?

Not only did the Chiefs sign Brown, but they also added Xavier Worthy via the NFL Draft.

Kansas City went from having very limited depth at wide receiver to suddenly boasting an impressive trio of Rashee Rice, Brown and Worthy.

    But there are issues here.

Not only is Brown now sidelined, but Rice is facing a potential lengthy suspension from the NFL due to his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run car accident earlier this offseason.

Plus, while he is superbly talented and ran the fastest 40-yard dash in the history of the Scouting Combine, Worthy is very unproven.

If all goes well, the Chiefs could have one of the better groups of wide outs in the league, but as you are already seeing, things can go south pretty quickly.
