Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa Fires Massive Shot At Former Coach

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has blossomed into a Pro Bowler and just landed himself a massive contract extension with the team. But before Tagovailoa turned into the player he is today, there were some growing pains, particularly under now-former head coach Brian Flores.

The Dolphins are now coached by Mike McDaniel, under whom Tagovailoa has flourished.

Tagovailoa made his affinity for McDaniel and disdain for Flores very clear during a recent appearance on the Dan Le Batard Show.

“To put it in simplest terms, if you woke up every morning, and I told you you suck at what you did, that you don’t belong doing what you do, that you shouldn’t be here, that this guy should be here, that you haven’t earned this right, and then you have somebody else come in and tell you ‘You are the best fit for this,’ … how would it make you feel listening to one or the other?” Tagovailoa said .

McDaniel took over as Miami’s head coach in 2022, which also coincided with Tagovailoa’s breakout year. In 13 games that season, Tagovailoa threw for 3,548 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 64.8 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 105.5.

Then, this past year, Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards and made the Pro Bowl.

Most importantly, the 26-year-old has led the Dolphins to the playoffs in back-to-back campaigns, something the franchise had not achieved since 2001.

Is Tua Tagovailoa capable of leading the Dolphins to a Super Bowl?

Of course, there are still many questions about Tagovailoa moving forward.

He went just 1-6 against teams with winning records during the regular season last year. He struggles in colder weather. Many also feel that he is largely a product of two great wide receivers in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

So, is Tagovailoa really capable of leading Miami to the promised land?

No one knows for sure just yet, but obviously, the Dolphins felt secure enough with him for the future to hand him a lucrative long-term deal.

Miami has been trying to find a franchise quarterback for decades, and it may have finally found its answer in Tagovailoa. But there is no doubt that there are some lingering concerns about the University of Alabama product, especially from a durability perspective.

We’ll see if Tua Tagovailoa can prove everyone wrong in 2024 and beyond.
