3 Players the Indianapolis Colts Should Target Via Trade

Roster spots for the Indianapolis Colts and the rest of the NFL teams are almost a done deal now that the preseason has started. A couple more preseason games to go before the 53-man roster for all teams is a done deal and teams get ready to battle it out as the regular season gets underway.

There will be many players who do not make the final cut, but there is still time for teams to add some missing pieces to the puzzle if they wish to. The Colts are currently in one of the better divisions as far as competition goes.

They will have to deal with the likes of a red-hot Houston Texans team from last season and the Jacksonville Jaguars who would be looking to get back to the top. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans are difficult to predict this year.

Here, we will take a look at three players the Indianapolis Colts should target via trade to improve their overall roster as they take the fight to the Texans for the AFC South crown.

    Jonathan Allen, DL, Washington Commanders

Defensive tackle Jonathan Allen has been a part of the Washington Commanders for seven years now. He has invaluable experience and will be a great boost on the defensive line for the Colts.

Indianapolis has to deal with a vastly improved Texans team while the Jaguars are also a contender from their division. Moreover, the Titans could spring a surprise or two given their roster additions in the offseason.

To be able to challenge not only the AFC South but also in the playoffs, adding a seasoned veteran with a proven track record like the one Allen boasts of will be a positive for the Colts.

    Caleb Farley, CB Tennessee Titans

Secondly, Indianapolis should target Titans cornerback Caleb Farley to give a boost to their secondary. Currently, the Colts’ secondary is one of their weaker positions. In 2023, the Colts featured rookies JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones whose inexperience came into play on various occasions.

Indianapolis has a reliable corner in Kenny Moore II, but after him, the secondary lacks quality. Farley’s fifth-year option has been declined by the Titans due to his injury-prone nature. Farley has missed several games for Tennessee throughout his three year career thus far and is a concern for teams going forward.

Nevertheless, if the Colts can add him to their roster for a relatively cheap trade, he could be a valuable asset on defense.

    Miles Sanders, RB, Carolina Panthers

Miles Sanders joined the Panthers in 2023 where he was expected to carry on with the tremendous form he displayed for the Philadelphia Eagles for the previous 4 years. Averaging slightly above 5.0 yards per carry, Sanders slipped up in Carolina and was eventually replaced by Chuba Hubbard as the starter.

Moreover, the Panthers added Jonathon Brooks in the backfield with their second round pick in the draft this year which seems to suggest that Sanders has been pushed down the order.

Sanders still may have a lot to give and although the Colts have Jonathan Taylor as their primary running back, the depth behind him is nothing to speak of. Sanders could join Indy’s roster as a backup to Taylor in an attempt to benefit both parties.
