Green Bay Packers Playmaker Lands Rough Take For 2024

The Green Bay Packers are a team that people are paying close attention to heading into the 2024 season. Entering Year 2 as a starter, quarterback Jordan Love is surrounded by young, high-upside playmakers.

Among them is wide receiver Christian Watson. Throughout the first years of his career, Watson has constantly dealt with hamstring issues.

As a rookie, he missed three games and last season he missed seven all for hamstring woes. This offseason, he believes that he found the root cause of the issue and is hopeful that it will result in a healthier 2024 campaign.

Entering Year 3 of his career, this is a prove-it year for Watson. With how much other talent there is for Love to get the ball to, another injury could drop him on the depth chart.

Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are all wide receivers that Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers staff love. Tight ends Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft are also going to be involved in the passing game plan.

That depth is part of the reason that Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report believes that Watson is such a risky pick in the eighth round of Fantasy Football drafts this year.

“However, even if Watson is healthy, the Green Bay wideout room is choked with young talent. Jayden Reed. Romeo Doubs. Dontayvion Wicks. While Watson was sidelined last year, Reed and Doubs were building chemistry with Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

To be clear, a healthy Watson could easily surpass his ADP. But he could also get hurt again or find himself third in Green Bay in target share at wide receiver,” Davenport wrote.

There is certainly a lot of risk in selecting a player like Watson in a spot that could be a starter on your team. But, there isn’t any doubt about the talent that he brings to the table.

We have seen in spurts just how dominant he can be. He has a rare combination of size and athleticism that teams look for in No. 1 receivers, as he was working hard to expand his game last year.

In 20 career games, Watson has averaged 15 yards per reception. That kind of game-breaking ability is tantalizing for Fantasy Football managers.
