Cincinnati Bengals Position Battle Important for Fantasy Football Owners

The Cincinnati Bengals are going to look a lot different in 2024 on the offensive side of the ball than they have in years past.

For starters, the Bengals’ coaching staff has changed. Brian Callahan, who was the offensive coordinator for five seasons, is now the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. He will be replaced by Dan Pitcher, who has been with the franchise since 2016.

Along with the coaching change, the personnel will also be different. Veteran wide receiver Tyler Boyd left in free agency, following Callahan to the Titans.

In the backfield, Joe Burrow is going to be relying on a new starting running back for the first time in his career. Long-time Bengals star Joe Mixon is no longer with the team, as he was traded to the Houston Texans.

This is something that Fantasy Football managers will be keeping a close eye on. Mixon has been a reliable contributor for Fantasy Football teams for years, but someone else will have to take up that mantle in Cincinnati.

Who will carry the load in the Cincinnati Bengals’ backfield?

Who is it going to be for the Bengals? Right now, Zack Moss and Chase Brown look to be the leaders in the clubhouse for touches.

Committees are the worst thing for Fantasy Football managers to have to figure out. Unfortunately, that looks to be the direction things are heading in, according to Ben Baby of ESPN.

“Zack Moss and Chase Brown will receive the bulk of the carries, but how they’ll be used remains to be seen. With Joe Mixon now in Houston, the Bengals have more freedom to divvy up their early-down snaps. That could leave Trayveon Williams as the third-down back. Regardless, Moss and Brown will have upside as late-round picks, especially in PPR leagues. Expect the Bengals to use their running backs often in the passing game,” Baby wrote.

Any manager using a zero-running back strategy this year should have the Bengals’ tandem in their sights later in drafts. It sounds like Moss and Brown will each contribute, but figuring things out each week will be a headache.

But, as we have seen in the past with Mixon, this is a productive spot to be in. He was always heavily involved in the passing game, giving the Cincinnati Bengals’ running backs a nice floor to work with.
