Schenectady mayor seeks charter change to prevent future budget debacles
Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy is proposing a change to the city charter that would establish a budget deadline. The 2024 budget was due November 1st, 2023, but was held up by clashes between McCarthy and fellow Democrats who control the city council. Sticking points were water, sewer and trash fees and public safety funding.

A Look Inside this Abandoned Saratoga County Military Base
Although active during the cold war era, it was shut down in the 1970's. Located in Stillwater is a vast piece of property that was once home to an Air Force radar station. Town of Waterford Independence Day fireworks show
Hundreds of people gathered for the annual Independence Day firework celebration at the Waterford Harbor Visitors Center on Friday. Crowds were seated on both sides on the Erie Canal for the fireworks show. The celebration was made up of live music, dancing, and fireworks.
9&20 Milling and Paving
Beginning on July 8th NYSDOT’s contractor will begin milling Rt. 9 & 20 from Rt. 9J to just west of Rt. 4. Milling is expected to take six days. After milling has been completed, there may be a day or two of pavement repairs. Once the milling / repairs are completed, the contractor will begin paving. Paving is expected to take six days.

Saratoga Springs Finance Commissioner Minita Sanghvi, Public Works Commissioner Jason Golub, and Accounts Commissioner Dillon Moran voted to pay Moran’s unprecedentedly high lawyer bill at last night’s(July 2, 2024) City Council meeting. Mayor John Safford and Public Safety Commissioner Tim Coll voted no. Moran’s lawyer billed at $1250/hour to represent Moran and his Deputy, Stacy Connors in the investigation into the city’s on-call pay scandal. This morning, July 3, the city Republican Chair Mike Brandi went to court to challenge the legality of the payment.
