All four firefighters are at home, resting and recovering, according to an update from the town of Nolensville.

“We are thankful that the family and our firefighters are safe. We cannot stress enough the importance of having an emergency plan for your family and practicing it at least twice a year,” Nolensville Public Information Officer Brandi Najm said. “Having a sprinklered home and working smoke alarms gave this family time to evacuate. Every second counts in a home fire.”

Residents of the home were alerted to the fire through their smoke alarms, giving them time to evacuate safely.

Nolensville Fire and Rescue said the fire was caused by a lightning strike. The town of Nolensville later clarified that lightning struck the roof of the home, starting a fire in the attic. The residents are now staying with family.

Mutual aid from Arrington Fire, Brentwood Fire, Williamson County Fire and Rescue, Williamson Health and Williamson County’s Emergency Management Agency helped provide additional suppression personnel and transportation for injured Nolensville firefighters.

Those agencies also gave on-scene support and backfilled the Nolensville fire station so that there was no interruption to emergency response.

“At Nolensville Fire, we take pride in serving our community and training at the highest level to protect our crews and our town,” Najm added. “We will continue to train, grow, and place priority on the safety of our personnel. Thank you to the Nolensville community who has once again provided incredible love and support since this incident started.”
