NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced plans to begin repaving Route 1 South in North and South Kingstown starting Sunday night.

The construction will take place from Shermantown Road in North Kingstown to the Oliver Stedman Government Center in South Kingstown.

    PINPOINT TRAFFIC: Plan your commute

The project is expected to last until early September. All operations will be done during overnight hours to avoid disrupting summer beach traffic, according to RIDOT.

During the milling process, drivers should expect rough roads until each segment is paved. At least one lane of travel will be open from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays.

The project is subject to change depending on weather and other circumstances.
