The driver of a car crashed into a dump truck at 3100 North Main Street in North Logan Tuesday around 12:40 p.m., forcing both vehicles off the road.

The car came to a stop in a ditch, and the driver attempted to leave the scene of the crash but was stopped by police.

The truck was pushed partially off the road but caught its tag axel on the curb, stopping it from continuing into the ditch.

The truck driver was checked by medical personnel and released with minor injuries.

David Barrett, who witnessed the crash, said the dump truck was crossing the intersection headed south on Main Street. The car driver was making a right turn from 3100 North onto Main Street.

Barrett said the driver, an adult male, failed to yield and made the turn on a red light, crashing into the dump truck.

Russell Price, the truck driver, said the car didn’t seem to slow down and hit him at about 35 mile per hour.

“It’s lucky the dump truck didn’t roll,” Barrett said.

Barrett said he and other onlookers pushed the car upright from where it landed on its side, turned it off and tried to call the driver back as he walked off. Barrett said they were worried about the car starting a fire, as the ditch and nearby field were full of dry weeds.

North Park police officers who responded to the crash told Price they would arrest the driver for leaving the scene of an accident with injury and conduct a field sobriety test.
