PROVIDENCE – A jury on this week acquitted a 62-year-old North Providence man of manslaughter for allegedly fatally stabbing a man in the neck .

The jury found Mark Santilli not guilty in the stabbing of 29-year-old Torrezz Lumpkins in October 2021 after a trial before Superior Court Judge Maureen B. Keough.

    Looking at the case

Police responded to a reported disturbance at 4 Smithfield Rd. at around 7:44 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2021, the North Providence Police Department said at the time.

Lumpkins had been stabbed and had a "severe injury to his neck area," police said. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Santilli, who lived at the Smithfield Road address, was arrested and charged with murder. North Providence police said at the time that it was an isolated incident in which Santilli and Lumpkins knew each other.

Santilli was represented at trial by John E. MacDonald and Stephen R. Archambault. Daniel Carr Guglielmo represented the state.
