Star Buds eyes new dispensary storefront in Riverside
A new Star Buds storefront could come to the corner of East Burlington Street and South Harlem Avenue in Riverside. At its June 26 meeting, the village’s planning & zoning commission held a public hearing about the proposed development before the commissioners discussed it. The commission was tasked with reviewing the overall site plan, as well as several variations from the village code included in the plan. The meeting lasted just longer than three hours, with the final two hours dedicated solely to the public hearing and subsequent discussion.
Montessori school in Riverside can have up to 12 students
Intiraymi Spanish Montessori in Riverside is now allowed to have up to 12 students at a time, a 50% increase from its former village-given limit of eight students. At its June 26 meeting, the Riverside planning & zoning commission approved the measure unanimously to grant the Spanish-language school a special use permit, allowing it to enroll the extra four students. A similar permit would be required for other changes to the school’s operations in the future, as it is located at 53 Northgate Road in a residential area of the village.

Chicagoland man facing decades in prison after attempting to rack up thousands in charges on stolen credit card
A man from the Chicago suburbs has been arrested five months after he made several attempts to use stolen credit cards at Coral Ridge Mall. According to arrest reports, a suspect went into the University of Iowa Health Care Clinic on North Dodge Street and stole a wallet from an office not open to the public on February 1st. He and another suspect, identified as 20-year-old Antonio Tallie of Park Forest, then reportedly used the cards at Target and Best Buy. They tried to use one card at Target for $1271.99 but the card was declined. The other suspect tried to use three different cards at Best Buy for a total of over $2860, but they were all declined.

Illinois Ends Fiscal Year With Nearly $5B Cash on Hand
Illinois entered a new fiscal year Monday with a bit of a financial cushion as the prior year’s revenues exceeded final projections by about $123 million. The state ended fiscal year 2024 with about $4.7 billion cash on hand, or about 9% of the allocated spending for fiscal year 2025, which began July 1. That included a record high $2.1 billion in the state’s budget stabilization, or “rainy day” fund, which has seen its balance grow steadily over the past five years.
