The Northfield School District hosted its first community Juneteenth celebration on Wednesday, June 19 at Northfield High School. More than 70 people attended the event.

Northfield graduate Patricia Owusu and Black Parent Advisory Committee member Kimesha Winn delivered the opening remarks.

Dr. Yolanda Williams, a lecturer at the University of Minnesota, served as the keynote speaker. Her lecture, titled “Black Americana,” highlighted the contributions of Black Americans to American music.

The catering was provided by Mama Sheila’s House of Soul from Minneapolis.

The event was made possible through generous donations from Neuger, the Northfield Racial and Ethnic Equity Coalition, and Northfield Promise.
