i9 investigation: lack of access to police body camera footage
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A professor of criminology said police worn body camera footage should be made more available to the public, but it’s not happening in Iowa. “When we make it so damn difficult to get the footage, we’re losing that key part of it which is to be transparent,” said Dr. Eric Bronson, a Criminal Justice Professor at Roger Williams University’s School of Justice Studies.

One criminal professor told us independent police review boards are an answer to balancing public accountability with secrecy needed in police investigations. IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A person drowned in a pond at an Iowa City golf course after being trapped under some maintenance equipment on Wednesday afternoon. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said it happened at Pleasant Valley Golf Course, located at 4390 Sand Road SE, at around 1:39 p.m. First responders said the victim was fully submerged in the pond, and still trapped under the maintenance equipment, when they arrived. First responders were able to recover the victim and declared the person dead at the scene. Officials have not released the identity of the victim. They have also not reported how the victim became trapped under the maintenance equipment. The incident remains under investigation.
Cedar Rapids Man Receives Federal Sentence For Fentanyl Distribution
Twenty-six-year-old Colby Joseph Manley of Cedar Rapids was sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison earlier this month. Manley, was sentenced in reference to a guilty plea in January of this year to four counts of distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled substance, and two subsequent counts of distribution of a controlled substance, stemming from an incident in April of 2022 where Manley distributed fentanyl to other person, and that person overdosed and died while using the drugs. Following the death, Manley was also documented selling pills to undercover officers a half dozen times between December of 2022 and February of 2023.
