Predicting the Notre Dame Offense Two Deep Depth Chart Amid fall camp for 2024 college football season

Fall camp is officially underway, which means we are only a few weeks until the 2024 Notre Dame football season officially kicks off. With so much optimism heading into the fall, there are a few key position values worth keeping a close eye on. Offense especially has Irish fan's attention so far in camp.

With some recent injury news, here is an updated depth chart heading toward the fall. Some of it is based on what we’ve seen already in camp, and some of what I expect it to ultimately look like. This offense has a chance to be very good. Some things just need to mesh quickly.

    Quarterback

    1. Riley Leonard
    2. Steve Angeli or Kenny Minchey

Even while Leonard has been dealing with recovering from his offseason foot injury, there has been little question about who the starting quarterback for Notre Dame would be this fall. When healthy, the former Duke signal caller is one of the top dual threat signal callers in all of college football. You can go back and take a look at his 2022 season to see that, where he threw for 2,967 yards and 20 touchdowns, while adding another 699 yards and 13 scores on the ground.

The bigger question in this room is who is going to be the preferred backup. Right now the betting favorite is Steve Angeli, who has shown that he is a solid option to come off the bench and play. Will someone like Minchey or Carr eventually supplant him and start building toward 2025? That’s the major question. Both of them figure much more into the future of the starting quarterback conversation than Angeli.

    Running back

    1. Jeremiyah Love
    2. Jadarian Price

You could honestly list Love and Price in a 1A-1B conversation. Both of them are going to play a lot, each bringing some incredible big play ability to the table. I do believe that Love will handle the bigger load out of the two, eventually becoming the top overall option in that room. He is just too talented not to get the football in a lot of different ways.

Price will also get a lot of touches. After those two, expect Devyn Ford to serve a veteran role, bringing some comfort as a pass blocker, doing the little things. True freshman running backs Kedren Young and Aneyas Williams could also play themselves on the field. They might be way too talented to keep off of it.

    Wide receiver

    X - Beaux Collins

    X - Jayden Thomas

    Y - Jaden Greathouse

    Y - Jordan Faison

    Z - Kris Mitchell

    Z - KK Smith

There might not be a more anxiously awaited position group on Notre Dame than wide receiver. That room has gotten a complete makeover from what we saw in 2023. Greathouse has been the talk of the offseason, expected to be the star of the group. Transfers Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell were sorely needed, bringing a lot of experienced and proven production to the table (combined for 102 receptions for 1,628 and nine touchdowns last season).

While Faison has been spending a lot of time on the outside this offseason, there is still the expectation that his ability to make plays after the catch will see a lot of time in the slot this offseason. If anything, Notre Dame will move him all over. Also expect former Marshall standout Jayden Harrison to get some touches there as well. This is the deepest wide receiver room that the Irish have had in some time.

    Tight end

    1. Mitchell Evans
    2. Eli Raridon or Cooper Flanagan

There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and that Notre Dame is going to have a lot of options at tight end. You should expect Mitchell Evans to be the top option there when healthy this fall. He’s coming off of a year where he hauled in 29 receptions for 422 yards and one touchdown in just eight games.

Behind him, both Raridon and Flanagan are going to play. The former is a dynamic athlete, pathology Raridon has dealt with some durability issues in South Bend. Flanagan brings a huge frame and massive upside as a blocker. This room should feed off of one another really well.

    Offensive line

    LT - Tosh Baker

    LT - Anthonie Knapp

    LG - Pat Coogan

    LG - Rocco Spindler

    C - Ashton Craig

    C - Sam Pendleton

    RG - Billy Schrauth

    RG - Chris Terek

    RT - Aamil Wagner

    RT - Guerby Lambert

There has always been a shakeup in the offensive line room with the injury to starting left tackle Charles Jagusah. The immediate answer seems to be for Baker to move over to left tackle, where he does have some experience in the past. Outside of that major question mark, there is a lot of optimism for the upside of this unit. Schrauth, Craig, and Wagner are all expected to make rises this season.

People are anxious to see if any of the depth can rise and challenge the starting group, even if it’s during the season. Will Guerby Lambert force himself onto the field as a true freshman? Will Sullivan Absher get a chance, and at what position? They are worth keeping a close eye on.
