School bus wreck in Habersham County; no injuries reported

Habersham County school officials have released details of a wreck reported involving a school bus. Board of Education Police Chief Murray Kogod tells Now Habersham that the wreck occurred at the intersection of GA 365 and GA 197 at approximately 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The wreck occurred when the school bus attempted to merge onto GA 365 and came to an abrupt stop due to another vehicle in front of the bus attempting to merge onto the highway as well. Believing the other vehicle had merged, the bus driver rolled forward at a low rate of speed and impacted the rear of the vehicle.

In Kogod’s statement, no students were on the bus at the time of the accident and no injuries were reported by occupants of either vehicle. The Board of Education Police Department has turned the wreck investigation over to Georgia State Patrol.

School bus wrecks in Georgia

This incident appears to be the latest in a string of school bus wrecks across Georgia this month.

At least 19 students were taken to the hospital following a school bus crash in Dekalb County on Thursday, August 29.

In Polk County, 11 students and staff were injured when their bus overturned after being struck by an alleged DUI driver on August 8. The following day, in Northeast Georgia, eight people, including four students, were injured when an SUV struck a Hall County school bus.

On August 27, a Franklin County school bus was involved in a wreck near Franklin County High School. No one was injured.
