Going for gold: Rockland County woman to compete in upcoming Olympic games

A woman who grew up in Nyack will compete in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Charlotte Buck, a Nyack native, is part of USA’s Women's Eight rowing team. "I'm really proud of my journey through Nyack, like the public school system meant a lot to me growing up in Nyack,” said Buck in a virtual interview with News 12. “I think it is such a strong community and I'm always so happy to represent." She is currently training with her team in Italy ahead of the Olympic games later this month in Paris. "Honestly, one of the best things is that whole team is feeling really good," Buck said. Her journey started with rowing on Rockland Lake in 2014 and it has led her to the world’s biggest stage twice. A now two-time Olympian, Buck made her first debut during the Tokyo games. The team came up short then, placing fourth, and because of COVID rules, they left within a few days after competition. "I'm excited to do the whole Olympic thing and get to see other sports. But on the competition side, I am so excited to go and get the chance to compete again," says Buck. The team has had success in other recent international races, like getting silver at last year’s world championships. She says their competition to get to the top of the podium this year is Romania, Canada, Great Britain and Australia. The team's first race is expected to happen in late July with the finals in early August. It is weather dependent. Buck’s resume also includes being a two-time MVP and captain for Columbia University’s team. She also coached at Rockland Rowing for two years while training at the New York Athletic Club in Pelham. "
