ST. LOUIS — Thousands of people gathered in downtown St. Louis Sunday for a Pride parade. The Grand Pride Parade stepped off at noon, heading westbound on Market Street. Granite City, IL – The steelworkers of Granite City have a new union leader at a time when their entire future seems to be in the balance. Craig McKey was sworn in as the new president of United Steelworkers Local 1899 on June 6 at the Labor Temple in Granite City, along with returning and newly elected officers and board members for the local. McKey has been in the union for 15 years and was serving as vice president before he ran for president, replacing Dan Simmons.
Illinois 161 closing at rail crossing in Albers July 8
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that State Route 161 will be closed to all traffic a mile east of Albers on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The full closure allows repairs by the Norfolk Southern railroad to a crossing between Grassy Branch Road and Hunter Road. Weather permitting, work will begin at 6 a.m. Monday, July 8th. Work is expected to be completed by 9 p.m. Tuesday.
