Grand Opening for Cloud County Community College Technical Education & Innovation Center Planned

Natalie D. Lober-O'Leary
Natalie Dawn Lober- O'Leary was born on March 14, 1988. She grew up in Leavenworth, Kansas and spent the summers with her grandma and family at Camp riding horses. In 2006 she had a beautiful daughter, Shiann, who was the light of her life. After high school, the joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. She married Adam Nichols and the 3 of them lived in Dunnellon, Florida close to the wonderful Nichols family.Years later, she met Chris O'Leary and they were married. They had a tattoo business that Natalie helped to manage. She enjoyed the ocean, her animals, motorcycles, life in Florida and her family and friends. She loved to decorate her home and to cook. She recently added a beautiful Frenchie dog named Queen to her family. She adored Queen and took her with her everywhere.Natalie was caring and trusting and looked for the best in people. She would go out of her way to help a friend in need even if she was struggling.She was visiting Abilene when her husband Chris, passed away in 2020. A few years later, in 2023, her daughter, Shiann tragically passed away.Natalie had a fiery spirit and was very determined when she needed to accomplish something. After her daughter’s death, she moved to Wichita and worked hard to start over when this heartbreaking accident occurred.She was light, love, smart, funny, fierce, and caring. She will always be intensely missed by everyone that knew her as we keep the memory of her in our hearts.Surviving her are her mother, Cindy Monroe of Abilene, her father, Terry Lober, of Florida, her half- brother, Joe Lober and her uncle Dennis Monroe, of Abilene.She was pre-deceased by her husband, Chris O’Leary, daughter, Shiann Lober, and her grandparents Doris & Ron Shivers.Visitation will be July 9,2024 from 5 to 7 the Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. The funeral service will be at the same location Jul 10, 2024. Pastor Jack Gilstrap will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the Abilene Food Bank and may be sent in care of the funeral home. James Lee “Jim” McKale, age 81 of Abilene, Kansas, died Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Memorial Hospital- Abilene, Kansas.He was born on December 10, 1942 in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of Dale and Nadine (Faulkner) McKale. Jim was raised in the Longford, Kansas community where he graduated from Longford High School in 1960. He continued his education at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, followed by barber school in Wichita, Kansas.
Obituary-Lloyd Frigon
Lloyd Edward Frigon, 86 died July 4, 2024, in Clay Center, KS. He was born on March 20, 1938, in Abilene, KS, the son of Alcid and Mildred (Beck) Frigon. Lloyd was raised in Abilene and Victorville, CA and was a graduate of the Class of 1956 from Victorville High School. Following high school, he served in the US Navy. Lloyd married Jolene Frigon on May 10, 1968. He worked as a Sheriff Deputy for San Bernadino County for 20 years retiring in 1983. After retirement Lloyd and Jolene made their home in Clay Center. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and a past member of the Clay Center Rotary club. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Conner.

This ambitious project includes the construction of a 6,765 square-foot addition, featuring a new mental health clinic and expansion of Clay Center Family Physicians.

Quinn honored as Second Team Academic All-American by CSC
SEWARD, Neb. – Following one of the greatest seasons ever enjoyed by a Concordia Bulldog baseball player, Jaidan Quinn has landed another award. On Tuesday (July 2), the NAIA First Team All-American was honored by College Sports Communicators (CSC) as a 2024 NAIA Second Team Academic All-American®. In early June, Quinn had been honored as Academic All-District along with teammates Blake Benson, Brad Hallock and Ty Nekoliczak. There have been eight Academic All-America awards claimed by the Concordia Baseball program during Head Coach Ryan Dupic’s tenure.
NCK 94.9 to Provide Patriotic Soundtrack for Independence Day Celebrations
White Communications and NCK 94.9 will provide the soundtrack to area Fourth of July celebrations this week. NCK 94.9 will broadcast a 30-minute program of patriotic music at 10 pm on Wednesday, July 3rd and Thursday, July 4th. The program will provide a perfect musical backdrop for the Concordia City Fireworks show at the Cloud County Fairgrounds in Concordia on July 3rd, while the patriotic program will also be played July 4th for the enjoyment of local residents celebrating with privately-purchased fireworks.

Railroad launches rebuild fund
An Abilene fundraising campaign is underway to complete the federally mandated rebuild of Santa Fe 3415, the state’s official steam locomotive. According to Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad officials, the engine overhaul is required by the Federal Railroad Administration and is a process that must be completed every 15 years. The engine is currently out of service and will not operate until workers and consultants complete the inspection and rebuild of the engine’s boiler and flue system. Other components of the running gear and tender car will also be examined, repaired and/or replaced.
Linda Harding
Linda M. Harding, 84, of Lindsborg, KS and formerly of Abilene, KS, peacefully passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. Linda was born on November 25, 1939, in Lindsborg, KS, the daughter of Carl Martin “Haggie” and Emily Mercedes (Train) Hagstrand. She graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College. She later received her master’s degree from Kansas State University. Linda started her elementary teaching career in Colby, KS. She taught kindergarten for 24 years at Rural Center Elementary School near Abilene, KS before retiring in 1999.
Fireworks Safety: Know the Rules
The Community Engagement Dashboard provides more information about the rules, regulations, Old Fashioned Fourth of July in Eisenhower Park and the annual fireworks display. Fireworks can be legally discharged within the city limits from July 1st through July 3rd, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 10:00 p.m., and from July 4th through July 6th, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at midnight.
