ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- An Odessa man accused of murdering his wheelchair bound roommate last month is now facing new charges in connection with an alleged road rage incident that occurred just weeks before the murder. Brayden Scott Roupp, 18, has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, that’s in addition to one count of Murder and one count of Tampering with Evidence in connection with the June 17 shooting death of James Francis Johnson.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, on June 3, officers were called to the area of 49 th Street and Dixie Boulevard to investigate a shots fired call after someone called 911 and said that a man in a blue Dodge pickup truck had fired multiple shots at another driver. At the scene, officers said they found several 9mm shell casings along the curb line.

Investigators spoke with a man who said the driver of a blue truck almost crashed into him as he turned right onto 49 th Street; after the near collision, witnesses said the driver of the truck stopped and fired multiple shots toward the victim’s vehicle before driving away from the scene.

Initially, investigators were not able to identify the driver of Didge, who was described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, with “shaggy” hair. However, after Johnson’s murder, investigators learned that the suspect in that case, identified as Roupp, matched the description and also owned a blue Dodge truck and a firearm that matched the shell casings found at the scene.

Using that information, investigators said the victim in the road rage case was able to identify Roupp out of a photo lineup as the man who’d fired upon him. Jail records show that Roupp remained in the Ector County Law Enforcement Center as of Monday afternoon on a combined $375,000 bond.
