Owner of Johnson County cigar lounge is opening an ‘upscale’ cocktail bar next door

South Olathe isn’t necessarily booming with cocktail lounges.

There are a few sports bars near Matt Murphy’s business, Fireside Cigar , at 15999 S. Bradley Drive, but nothing like the space he’s envisioning.

He hopes his new lounge, Quaint, will satisfy the growing area’s social needs when it opens in August, tentatively.

“We want it to be unique,” Murphy said. “It’s a place that you can come by, closer to home, and have a cocktail after dinner.”

Quaint will be next door to Fireside (15995 S. Bradley Drive), but the two will be separate. (Kansas law prohibits drinking in cigar lounges. Or smoking in cocktail lounges.)

As was his goal with Fireside, Murphy hopes Quaint will foster community. Hopefully, his space will also appeal to smoke-free customers.

He said the 1,500-square-foot-space will have a white stone bar, brass accents and tan leather.

It will be small and intimate, with character — quaint. Hence the name.

“It will be upscale, but not pretentious,” Murphy said. “It will be feminine enough for women who want to come into the space and feel comfortable, but it will also have touches of masculine.”

He’s still finalizing the menu and said he wasn’t ready to announce his roster of specialty cocktails just yet.

For customers who want to pop over to the other side and smoke a cigar, Fireside sells cigars made by brands like Arturo Fuente, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. and La Flor Dominicana.

Murphy opened Fireside three years ago, after years of working in the cigar industry in Philadelphia.

Fireside is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
