Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass four-star cornerback Jontae Gilbert is in the simple portion of his commitment. The No. 135 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings is set to announce his college decision on Saturday around 2 p.m.

Gilbert has his mind made up. Now, it’s about telling the world where he will call home in college. The four-star cornerback is down to Georgia, Georgia Tech and NC State.

“I’m really just ready to announce it,” Gilbert told DawgsHQ. “It’s been a long journey.”

He’s going to stick to a traditional commitment announcement strategy. Gilbert plans on using hats to announce his decision on Saturday.

There were a few factors in play that helped him make his decision. One of those factors was position. Gilbert believes in his ability to play the cornerback position. Gilbert was a safety for much of the recruiting process.

The schools that allowed him to prove he could play cornerback are on his table for Saturday.

“That’s what it came down to, this summer I worked out for two schools, Georgia and NC State and I feel like I can play cornerback and that’s open,” Gilbert said.

Jontae Gilbert dives in on contenders

Gilbert has pluses that he’s considering with each of his contenders beyond playing a position he wants to play.

Georgia Tech : “Coach (Brent) Key is trying to turn that program around. They have a great new defensive coaching staff.

NC State : “I love what coach Gibson runs on defense. He’s very aggressive about blitzing his corners, which is a position I want to play on the next level.”

Georgia: “You compete at a high level. You’re going to win games at Georgia. Coach Donte (Williams) and T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) are good guys. They’re probably the best duo of defensive back coaches in the United States of America.”

What does Georgia have to offer?

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine favors Georgia going into Gilbert’s decision. The Bulldogs have a 64.3 percent chance of landing the four-star cornerback.

Georgia checks a lot of boxes for Gilbert. They’ve also been in heavy communication over the last few weeks.

“I’m in communication with them consistently, we keep in contact,” Gilbert said.

    The message has been simple.

“We need you and we want you here, you’re a priority,” Gilbert said.

Georgia’s coaching staff isn’t the only group of Bulldogs recruiting Gilbert. Georgia’s class of 2025 is also pitching in to help push Georgia to the forefront for Gilbert.

“The whole secondary is recruiting me, Todd (Robinson), Jaylan (Morgan), Shamari (Earls) and Ryan (Montgomery) as well,” Gilbert said. “They’re great players and they’re great for a reason. I saw that at camp last week.”
