Purdue has started preparations for the 2024 campaign in training camp, gearing toward the season-opener on August 31 at home vs Indiana State. Let’s count down the top 30 Boilermakers as we march to the start of Ryan Walters ‘ second season in West Lafayette.
No. 8 Jahmal Edrine, WR, Junior
Good things come to those who wait. At least that’s what WR Jahmal Edrine hopes.
Edrine arrived from Florida Atlantic prior to last season expecting to be a key contributor. Alas, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in camp. Now, the redshirt junior is ready to go.
“It was a shell-shock,” said Edrine about getting injured in 2023. “I never imaged coming here and getting hurt. That was never in my mind, my thought process. I feel like I was raised well, so when it happened, I was a resilient young man. So, when it happened, I put my head down and looked what to do next. If I was gonna be sad, I probably would not have pushed it too far … So, as soon as that happened, I went to the mode of: Now what? I gotta see what I can do to get better, get back on the field, make it happen for my teammates.”
Edrine has been to Ross-Ade Stadium before, playing in West Lafayette with FAU in 2022. Edrine made one catch for 39 yards in a 28-26 Boilermaker victory on September 24th in Ross-Ade Stadium. The 6-3, 215-pound Edrine was a redshirt freshman in 2022 when he made 39 receptions for 570 yards and six TDs for the Owls.
The Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) High grad redshirted in 2021, playing in two games and making one catch for nine yards. What type of receiver is Edrine?
“I like to think I’m a well-rounded receiver,” he said. “I’ll leave it up to the fans to decide.”
