The Dallas Cowboys are shoring up the defensive side of the ball this week following the injury to backup defensive end Sam Williams . The team brought in several defensive ends for workouts after Williams’ ACL tear and they’re now adding to the bunch . On Wednesday, the Cowboys traded for Giants DT Jordan Phillips , and now, they’re adding veteran defensive end Carl Lawson , according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Lawson worked out for Dallas following Williams’ injury, and now, he’s set to join the squad as they approach their second preseason game.

Lawson, a former fourth-rounder out of Auburn , last played a full 17 games in 2022 for the Jets. That season, he had seven sacks, bringing his six-year NFL total up to 27 sacks with 9.5 tackles for loss. He began his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Late Wednesday evening, a rare trade agreement was reached between heated NFC East conference foes, the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants have agreed to trade defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys.

BREAKING: The #Giants are trading DT Jordan Phillips to the #Cowboys, per multiple sources,” said Schultz via X.

In exchange for the veteran defensive tackle, Dallas is sending a sixth-round pick to New York. However, the Cowboys do get a seventh-round pick in the trade as well.

Phillips started his career with the Miami Dolphins after they selected him in the second round with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played college ball with the Oklahoma Sooners from 2011 to 2014, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors in his final season on campus.

Since making it to the NFL, Phillips has bounced around a bit, playing for the Buffalo Bills on two separate occasions, along with the Arizona Cardinals, and most recently signing with the New York Giants. However, something must have gone awry in New York, as the six-foot-six, 341-pound LB from Wichita, Kansas, now finds himself suiting up for one of the Giants’ biggest rivals following the trade.
