Good morning, folks! We’re now exactly two weeks away from Kentucky football’s 2024 season opener against Southern Miss. Mark Stoops has used the last several months of spring and summer ball to prepare what might just be his most overall talented team since arriving in Lexington. With a new quarterback and offensive coordinator (once again) in place, there is plenty of optimism going into this season — it’s that tough, new-look SEC schedule that could get in the way of things.

But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. Last Saturday, Kentucky hosted its first of two closed-door summer scrimmages. The Wildcats weren’t able to escape totally injury-free, but the on-field product was clean by all accounts. Later today, they’ll hit the field again for the second and final closed-door scrimmage — the last real opportunity to get things in order before Southern Miss in a couple of weeks.

It’s also Vince Marrow’s birthday today, so Happy 56th Birthday to the Big Dog.

If you haven’t done so already, make sure you’re plugged into KSR+ and KSBoard. We’ll be dropping whatever nuggets of information we can gather from today’s scrimmage. After the scrimmage wraps up, we’ll hear from the man himself as Stoops takes the podium early in the afternoon to tell the media what went down. As always, we’ll have Stoops’ entire press conference interview loaded onto the KSR YouTube page shortly after he finishes speaking.

Luckily for you, we’ve also got a pretty sweet promo deal running for KSR+/KSBoard, where you can get an annual subscription for 50% off the regular price. Looking at all the scoop we dropped during/following Malachi Moreno’s commitment on Friday, you’re missing out if haven’t signed up.

Take advantage of our KSR+ HOMEGROWN Special to get bonus coverage of the Cats, including football transfer portal rumblings, basketball game threads, in-depth scouting reports, and the latest recruiting intel. Use promo code HOMEGROWN for 50% off the annual price.

    Speaking of Moreno…

Mark Pope lands first 2025 commit

And it’s a good one. Malachi Moreno is the perfect piece to get Mark Pope ‘s debut recruiting class rolling. Ranked No. 25 overall in the 2025 recruiting class by the On3 Industry Ranking (and the top-ranked center), Moreno committed to Kentucky over the likes of Indiana, Ohio State, Louisville, and others. The seven-footer made his decision at Great Crossing High School in Georgetown, KY in front of his friends, family, teachers, and classmates.

Moreno might be a local product (this state is pumping out four-star recruits lately), but he’s still a significant recruiting win for Pope and the new staff. Moreno is a playmaking big who loves to pass out of the post, but he’s also an excellent rebounder and shot blocker. The offense has come along quickly throughout the summer too. Moreno is a terrific piece to build a class around and guys enjoy playing with him.

KSR had several boots on the ground for Moreno’s announcement. We were pumping out the content all afternoon and into the night. In case you missed anything, you can get up to date through the links/videos below.

    Blue-White Game, exhibitions announced

The 2024-25 Kentucky men’s basketball schedule is coming together. Earlier this week, we received confirmation from UK that Big Blue Madness would return to Rupp Arena on Friday, October 11. Yesterday, we added another few games to the preseason slate.

Kentucky men’s and women’s basketball will host the annual Blue-White Game in the newly renovated Memorial Coliseum for the first time since 2006. It’s being branded as a “Preseason Event”, indicating that there could be more to this than just a Kentucky vs. Kentucky scrimmage. It’s been scheduled for one week after BBM on Friday, October 18.

Also, the men’s team officially announced its two exhibition matchups ahead of the regular season. Kentucky will welcome the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (AKA, the Fighting Ryan Lemonds) on Wednesday, October 23, and the Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks (AKA, the Fighting Myron Medcalfs) on Tuesday, October 29. Both games will be played inside of Rupp Arena.

That’s not all though. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Friday that the full SEC schedule is expected to come out on Tuesday. We already know who Kentucky will play in conference games this season, but we don’t know when . That will change in a few days. You can check out the current state of the 2024-25 schedule here .

You have to see Tyler Herro’s new tattoo

Because it’s certainly an interesting one. Boy Wonder added his old Kentucky jersey to his collection of tattoos, right in the middle of his Whitnall High School jersey and Miami Heat jersey. We love Mr. Herro for his dedication to repping the Big Blue Nation, but not everything needs to be made into a tattoo.

It’s still better than “Earned Not Given” though — anything is.

The WWE dropped a Kentucky Legacy Title Belt

And it’ll cost you a pretty penny if you want one for yourself. The WWE unveiled a line of collegiate WWE legacy titles featuring the official branding and colors of select schools from the SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC. The University of Kentucky was among the schools included.

The officially licensed legacy title belts are now available for purchase at WWEShop.com and Fanatics.com . I hope you’ve got $549.99 lying around though, because that’s what this will run you.
