We are Beau Allen and Zion Childress days away from Kentucky Football season. If you know the Kentucky roster, you know that means the Cats kick off the season vs. Southern Miss in 11 days.

Football will be a big topic on today’s rundown, as we’ll get updates from the offense after practice. It’s also move-in week at UK, so unless you absolutely have to drive through or around campus, just avoid it or give yourself plenty of extra time. We’ve got a little bit of basketball to discuss too, as the team returns from its short summer break later this week and some former Cats come back to the Bluegrass for a big event. Also, did you see the super blue moon over the Bluegrass last night?

Here’s what you can look forward to in the world of UK sports on this beautiful Tuesday.

Updates from Bush Hamdan, Kentucky’s offense

We are back to our regular fall camp schedule this week, meaning Bush Hamdan will speak to reporters following today’s practice and Brad White on Thursday. KSR will be on the scene to bring you updates from Hamdan and members of the offense. Practice wraps around lunchtime, so check the site and YouTube Channel shortly after for a recap and interviews.

We’ll also have live updates on KSBoard , which is buzzing with football and basketball recruiting chatter. If you’ve been curious about KSR+ and KSBoard, now’s the perfect time to try it out. Annual memberships are 50% off with the promo code HOMEGROWN . Adam Luckett’s in-depth takeaways from fall camp are well worth the price of admission.

Catch up on Stoops’ Louisville luncheon remarks, 11 Personnel

Talking season is nearing a close. Yesterday, Mark Stoops spoke to fans and media at the Louisville Kickoff Luncheon at Churchill Downs. There wasn’t a ton of news to pass along, but Stoops did talk about how the late start to the fall semester impacted the practice schedule , when the focus will shift to Southern Miss, the growth of the offensive line, and more. He even joked that the SEC office must not like him given the difficulty of Kentucky’s road schedule this year.

Elsewhere on the KSR YouTube Channel , you’ll find a new episode of 11 Personnel. Last night, Nick Roush and Adam Luckett hosted their annual college football win totals special. Hit play below to hear their over/unders for Kentucky and teams across the sport, along with some thoughts on the end of fall camp.

What farmwork is Kerr Kriisa doing today?

As mentioned, the basketball team is in the home stretch of a short summer break. Several Cats took trips with their friends and family . Ansley Almonor went to the Dominican Republic, Lamont Butler Hawaii, and Otega Oweh to see his brother play in a preseason game for the Baltimore Ravens.

Kerr Kriisa ? He returned home to Estonia and worked on his family farm. UK sent out a short highlight reel of Kriisa at work on Monday. Honestly, it doesn’t look too different than what’s probably happening on farms across the Bluegrass right now. No wonder he feels so at home.

While we’re talking Kriisa, it looks like he got one of the leftover bucket hats from Kentucky’s trip to Toronto last summer for the GLOBL Jam. That last picture might as well hang in the Louvre.

The team will be back on campus Thursday, just ahead of a Club Blue community cookout in Hazard on Friday evening. Preseason workouts ramp back up on Monday, August 26.

    Sources Say from Kentucky Roadshow

It’s not just current Cats returning to campus this week. Reed Sheppard is coming back to the Bluegrass to host the inaugural Reed Sheppard Fantasy Experience at Rupp Arena on Thursday and Friday and he’s bringing an all-star cast with him. Oscar Tshiebwe, Tubby Smith, Goose Givens, and Seth Greenberg are among the speakers for the two-day event, the proceeds of which benefit The Sheppard Family Foundation.

Reed’s event is already sold out, but our Jack Pilgrim will be there to bring you all the sights and sounds. Tonight, he and Shawn Smith will preview the event, recap Malachi Moreno’s commitment, and share the latest on Jasper Johnson’s recruitment on a new episode of Sources Say, which will be filmed at the Kentucky Roadshow sports cards and memorabilia shop in Lexington (369 Romany Road). Tune in at 8 p.m. ET on the KSR YouTube Channel to hear the latest Kentucky Basketball news and see some really cool stuff.

Did you see the super blue moon last night?

If you thought the moon looked a little different last night, you’re not wrong. The cycles of the blue moon and supermoons are aligned, giving us a rare blue supermoon until Wednesday morning. A supermoon occurs four times a year when the moon’s orbit is closest to Earth, making it bigger and brighter than a typical full moon. A blue moon is more rare. In this instance, it refers to the third full moon in a season. Contrary to the name, blue moons only appear blue from Earth if there are dust particles or smoke in the sky. Last night’s looked orange.

A small plane is silhouetted against the August full moon as it appeared above the horizon in Louisville. Monday, August 19, 2024. The full moon was also a super moon and a “blue moon”.

We won’t see a super blue moon until 2037, so go outside and look up tonight if you haven’t already.

    Happy birthday, Rich Brooks!

Rich Brooks saw the super blue moon. The former Kentucky head coach is also celebrating a birthday today, his 83rd. A quick check of his Twitter shows he’s still enjoying life despite the occasional bad round of golf. On Sunday, he shared a picture of the full moon over the McKenzie River in Oregon.

Brooks being Brooks, we also got a picture of this summer’s tomatoes, which look delicious.
