Last week, the 2024 high school football season delivered a tasty appetizer of games, as parts of the country got underway for the first time in August.

The first serving of the main course is now en route — and the schedule once again looks delectable.

Fourteen games between teams ranked in the On3 Massey Ratings national top 100 are set to take place this week, headlined by a massive opening slate in Texas, as well as big-time clashes across Utah, Georgia, Maryland, Indiana and elsewhere.

Below are the key matchups to watch across the nation this weekend:

The On3 Massey Ratings — which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated college high school sports team rankings since 1995 — rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

Top high school football games this week

Prosper (Texas) vs. #18 Westlake (Texas) — Thursday, Aug. 29
Two top-35 national programs will help begin the festivities in Texas on Thursday night. Prosper (No. 14 in Texas) is fresh off a regional semifinals run and have won double-digit games in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2009. The Eagles return a bevy of starters, including a stacked offensive line that includes Texas A&M commit Connor Carty and junior IOL Sean Stover , among others. Westlake (No. 9 in Texas) won 14 games a season ago and will once again search for its first state title since 2021. QB Rees Wise is one of the state’s top junior signal-callers and will head the offense for the Chaparrals this fall.

#22 IMG Academy (Fla.) vs. Bergen Catholic (N.J.) — Thursday, Aug. 29
The season didn’t start according to plan for IMG last week, as it fell on the road against now No. 8 Corner Canyon (Utah) in a 35-34 thriller. The Ascenders (No. 1 in Fla.) will continue to rack up travel miles this week as they head to Oradell, N.J. to take on Bergen Catholic, the No. 1 team in the Garden State. The Crusaders’ roster doesn’t pack quite the same punch as IMG’s, but Ohio State WR commit Quincy Porter is a top-10 wideout nationally and will provide a tough matchup all evening. IMG quarterback and SMU commit Ty Hawkins threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns to open his senior campaign last week.

    #11 Aledo (Texas) vs. #12 Guyer (Texas) — Friday, Au g. 30
The lone national top-25 matchup this week features a pair of heavy-hitters in the Lone Star State with major aspirations for a state title this fall. Aledo (No. 6 in Texas) has won 11 titles in the past 15 seasons and is once again loaded, thanks to the likes of four-star receiver Kaydon Finley and four-star running back Raycine Guillory . The Bearcats head to Denton to take on Guyer (No. 7 in Texas) — which is looking to rebound from a down 7-4 campaign last season. The Wildcats bring in Oklahoma QB commit Kevin Sperry to man the offense while elite 2026 EDGE Zane Rowe , stout Wisconsin defensive lineman pledge Xavier Ukponu and highly coveted junior safety Kaedyn Cobbs roam on the defensive side of the ball. The On3 Massey Ratings give Guyer a 57% win probability.

#8 Corner Canyon (Utah) vs. Lone Peak (Utah) — Friday, Au g. 30
Corner Canyon made a statement last week, improving to 2-0 via an impressive win over then top-10 IMG Academy (Fla.). Junior quarterback Helaman Casuga has been lethal under center thus far, while senior four-star WR Jerome Myles continues to propel himself into the national spotlight as one of the country’s top wideouts. Lone Peak (2-0) will provide another big challenge for the Chargers on Friday night. Star junior defensive lineman Bott Mulitalo and Nebraska tight end pledge Bear Tenney have helped lead the Knights, who are now the No. 30 team in the nation and No. 2 team in Utah, to a pair of road wins to kick off the season.

Rome (Ga.) vs. Carrollton (Ga.) — Friday, Aug. 30
Finally, Rome (No. 11 in Ga.) will begin its 2024 season on Friday. The Wolves had to cancel their season-opener earlier this month following a bus crash that resulted in various minor injuries to over 10 players who were taken to the hospital as a result . “The Rome Wolves are tough, and although we went through some trauma, we did not have a tragedy, and for that we are thankful,” Rome head coach John Reid said in a statement. There won’t be any easing into things for Rome this weekend, as it heads to. Carrollton (2-0). Led by USC five-star QB commit Julian Lewis , the Trojans (No. 7 in Ga.) won 35-7 last week and have allowed just 21 points through their first two games of the season.

St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.) vs. St. Edward (Ohio) — Saturday, Aug. 31
In a battle between teams ranked No. 1 in their respective states, St. Joseph’s Prep will begin its season on the road, heading to Lakewood, Ohio to take on St. Edward. St. Joseph’s has won five Pennsylvania 6A state titles in the last six seasons and once again features a stacked roster, headlined by the likes of Penn State LB commit Cam Smith , Ohio State DL commit Maxwell Roy and RB commit Isaiah West , as well as Notre Dame LB commit Anthony Sacca . St. Edward, three-time defending state champs in Ohio, opened its season with a 28-0 shutout last week. It features far less talent when it comes to college prospects, but the Eagles posses one of the top defenses in the Midwest. The On3 Massey Ratings give St. Joseph’s a 61% win probability.

DeMatha Catholic (Md.) vs. Archbishop Spalding (Md.) — Saturday, Aug. 31
Two of Maryland’s top programs will throw down this weekend as DeMatha begins its season on the road in Severn to take on Archbishop Spalding (1-0). Led by Maryland four-star QB commit Malik Washington , Spalding (No. 2 in Md.) traveled to Ohio last week and opened its season with a 28-14 win over Archbishop Hoban . Washington threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns in the win. DeMatha will counter with Marshall QB pledge Denzel Gardner and Penn State WR commit Lavar Keys . The On3 Massey Ratings give Spalding a 53% win probability.
