Tennessee athletic director Danny White will become the highest paid AD in the SEC after his contract was amended, according to Volquest’s Brent Hubbs.

“White’s new contract runs through July 31, 2030 and has an automatic annual rollover meaning that White is always on a 6-year contract,” Hubbs wrote.

“White’s base pay effective August 1, 2024 is going from 2.2 million to an annual base pay of 2.75 million a year making him one of the highest paid athletic directors in the country. Texas’ Chris Del Conte has a guaranteed salary of 2.85 million in 2024 according to published reports.”

The end of the 2023-24 school year was a good one for the athletic department as White oversaw a national title in baseball.

“So excited,” White told Volquest after No. 1 Tennessee beat No. 3 Texas A&M 6-5 in Game 3 of the College World Series Final. “We plan to win a boatload of national championships at Tennessee. You have to start somewhere, though, and this was so much fun to see this group to get to the pinnacle moment.”

White’s new deal comes at a great time. There’s a lot of hype around the Tennessee football program going into the fall.

It seems like the Volunteers are thinking College Football Playoff.

“I think, you know, during the course of training camp? Individual growth, fundamentals, technique, alignment, assignment – you’ve seen steady growth,” head coach Josh Heupel said . “None of that is going to be monumental in one day. It’s continuing to take the right steps every single day.”

The Vols have also given the effort that Heupel respects and likes to see from them coming in. That’ll get a nod of approval from White.

“This group plays extremely hard. They compete extremely hard. They’re really consistent in that. Been really physical,” Heupel said. “I like that part of our football team right now …

“You know, as you get into the season, I think everybody is, you know, grasping their role, working and competing for the role that they want at the same time. Growing as a player is really important, keeping your team chemistry that you’ve built is really important as well. Those are things that, as you embark on the season here at this point and get ready to go play, your coaches and players have got to do a great job of.”
