In the morning after Colorado’s opening win of the season , Paul Finebaum has given his latest takes on the Buffaloes.

Finebaum appeared to start on ‘Get Up’ on Friday morning to discuss Colorado’s 31-26 victory over North Dakota State on Thursday. Finebaum went both positive and negative with his take. The pro was very much in favor of their two best players in Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter . The con, though, was about another so-so outing by the Buffs defense. Put those together and he still has his concerns about how Colorado will handle the rest of the season.

“We learned that he has two of the most exciting, if not the two most exciting, players in college football and a very pedestrian defense,” Finebaum said . “It was fun to watch. He’s going to get great reviews, which is important if your nickname is Prime Time. The problem is what happens when they start to face big-time opponents and they will do that very soon, including next week .”

Starting with the upside, Sanders and Hunter were the story coming out of Thursday night’s slate in college football. They went right back to putting up impressive numbers, if not better ones than last season. Sanders started his season going 26-for-34 for 445 yards, four touchdowns , and a blameless interception . As for Hunter, he was almost better with seven catches for 132 yards and three of those touchdowns as a receiver along with three tackles on defense.

However, on the downside, North Dakota State was the latest opponent to find success against Colorado’s defense. The Bison of the FBS posted 449 yards of offense Thursday, averaging nearly eight yards per play. The NDSU offense was efficient too in completing 83.3% of their passes while rushing for 157 yards. They also went 8-14 when converting on third or fourth down.

So, after the opener, what does all that mean for Colorado according to Finebaum? More of the same actually. He still considers them to be a team that could earn bowl eligibility but just doesn’t see anything else out there for them this season.

“I think this team is very capable of getting to a winning record and a bowl game. I don’t think they’re capable of going much beyond that,” said Sanders.
